Denver government closures Thursday and Friday

Many City and County of Denver offices and agencies will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday and a citywide furlough day. 

City partner entities such as Denver Health will remain open, as will agencies that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, such as Denver International Airport. Sworn members of the Denver Sheriff’s Office, police and fire departments and other emergency responders will be on duty both days

Here’s a quick rundown of city closures:

3-1-1 INFORMATION LINE, DENVERGOV.ORG AND DENVER 8 TV

3-1-1, the city’s information line for non-emergency services, will be closed both days, but Service requests may be submitted on denvergov.org by clicking on “Report an Issue” or at denvergov.org/denver311.

Residents may also ask questions and submit issues through Sunny, the City’s chatbot. Text “Hi” to 439311 to start a conversation.  Denver 8 TV programming will continue. Visit www.Denver8.TV  for schedule details.

ANIMAL SHELTER AND ANIMAL PROTECTION

The Denver Animal Shelter will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27. However, the Night Drop kennels will be open and accessible to the left of the front doors if a lost pet is found while the shelter is closed. Animal Protection officers will be available to respond to emergencies through 911.

AUDITOR’S OFFICE

The Auditor’s Office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28.

BUILDING AND ZONING PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS

Building and Zoning permitting will be closed, and no inspections will be scheduled on both days. On other weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Community Planning and Development public counter is available for walk-in or appointments for customers who would like to meet with staff in person to discuss building or zoning code questions. Permits are no longer issued at the counter. All projects applying for permits must use e-permits.

CITY COUNCIL             

All Denver City Council offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28.

CITY-OWNED GOLF FACILITIES       

Golf courses will be open Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28, weather permitting.

CLERK & RECORDER

Denver Clerk & Recorder – including the City Clerk, Elections, Public Trustee and Recording – will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28.

COURTS

The Denver County Court and Denver District Court will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27. Denver Probate Court, located in the City and County Building, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28. 

Denver Juvenile Court will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen for emergency docket on Friday, Nov. 28.

DENVER ARTS & VENUES

The Trading Post and Visitor Center at Red Rocks Amphitheatre will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. Outdoor spaces at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre will remain open both dates. Scheduled events at the Denver Performing Arts Complex and Denver Public Art will not be affected by the holiday. The McNichols Civic Center Building is currently closed for a revitalization project.

DENVER MOTOR VEHICLE TITLE AND REGISTRATION

Denver Motor Vehicle Title and Registration will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, but will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. For vehicle renewal online or to find self-serve kiosk locations, visit the Denver Motor Vehicle website.

DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING STABILITY    

The Department of Housing Stability will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen on Friday, Nov. 28. In the event cold weather shelters are activated over the holiday, those in need of services can go to www.denvergov.org/findshelter.

DENVER HUMAN SERVICES             

Denver Human Services will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28; however, child and adult protection emergency response teams and telephone hotlines will continue to take and respond to reports. 

To report suspected child abuse or neglect, or the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an at-risk adult in Denver, call the Denver County Child Welfare and Adult Protective Services hotline at 720-944-3000. 

To report suspected child abuse outside of Denver, contact the statewide hotline at 1-844-CO-4-KIDS (1-844-264-5437). 

To file a mandatory report of suspected elder abuse for an adult 70 years and older or the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an adult with an intellectual or developmental disability, call the Denver Police Department at 720-913-2000.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & INFRASTRUCTURE PERMIT COUNTERS

DOTI permit and the Right-of-Way Enforcement offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day only. They will reopen on Friday, Nov. 28. To apply for a right-of-way permit, visit Denver’s online permitting and licensing center at denvergov.org/AccelaCitizenAccess

DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING & CONSUMER PROTECTION (FORMERLY EXCISE & LICENSES)

The Department of Licensing & Consumer Protection will be closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. Customers are encouraged to schedule appointments and submit an application via email or the online portal. 

HUMAN RIGHTS & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Denver Human Rights & Community Partnerships will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. To file a discrimination complaint, request or ask questions about disability accommodations, deaf, hard or hearing, or DeafBlind services, language translation and interpreting assistance, access free financial coaching, and connect with programs and services for older adults, visit www.denvergov.org/hrcp or leave a voicemail at 720-913-8450. 

LIBRARIES

All Denver Public Library locations will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28.

OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT                    

The Denver Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and reopen Friday, Nov. 28. The on-call duty officer will maintain situational awareness of all activities in Denver over the holiday weekend.

OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES, TALENT ACQUISITION, NEW HIRE ONBOARDING AND I-9 ASSISTANCE

The Office of Human Resources will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. Applicants will still be able to search and apply for open positions at SeeYourselfHere.org.  New Hire Onboarding and I-9 assistance will resume on Monday, Dec. 1.  

DENVER DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT

DDPHE offices and the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will be closed to the public on these days. Office of the Medical Examiner Office staff will be available to respond to emergencies.

PARKING – ON-STREET PAID PARKING AND MAGISTRATE

Parking meters are free on Sundays and on recognized city holidays, and will be free on Thursday, Nov. 27. Drivers are reminded to observe the time restrictions posted. To request residential parking permits or to pay parking citations online: denvergov.org/parking.

RECREATION CENTERS

All Denver Recreation Centers will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, but will resume regular operating hours on Friday, Nov. 28.

TAXPAYER SERVICE CENTER

The Taxpayer Service Center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. 

TRASH, RECYCLING & COMPOST COLLECTION

Denver Solid Waste Management staff will observe the Thanksgiving holiday and the citywide furlough. Denver will not collect compost or recycling the week of Nov. 24 due to the three-day workweek. All services will resume the week of Dec. 1, and recycling calendars will be reset. For more information, visit https://denvergov.org/trash.

VEHICLE IMPOUND FACILITY

The Vehicle Impound Facility, 5160 York St., will be closed to the public on Thursday, Nov. 27.

VITAL RECORDS (BIRTH & DEATH CERTIFICATES)

The Denver Vital Records office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. Orders for birth and death certificates may be placed online.

WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT

The Wastewater Management Building, 2000 W. 3rd Ave., will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 28.

WORKFORCE CENTERS

All Denver Workforce Centers will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, but will reopen Friday, Nov. 28. Call 720-337-WORK or email workforce@denvergov.org. The city’s online hiring system will be available at denvergov.org/jobs. Job seekers may find online resources at denvergov.org/workforce
