Drivers to see I-25 closures at Highway 7 for construction
Drivers on I-25 will see closures next week at Highway 7 for maintenance, and detours will be in place on Monday and Tuesday nights.
The maintenance — putting a concrete girder in place for a new pedestrian bridge — is part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s I-25 and Highway 7 Interim Mobility Hub project, according to a CDOT traffic advisory.
Closures are as follows.
• Northbound I-25 at CO-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8
• Southbound I-25 at CO-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9
Drivers should expect a single-lane closure at 8 p.m., a double-lane closure at 9 p.m. and a full closure of I-25 at 11 p.m. on both nights, according to the advisory.
Traffic will detour around the closure via the CO-7 exit and entrance ramps. Slower traffic and delays should be expected. All lanes will be re-open by 5 a.m.
If inclement weather pauses the project, the work will be rescheduled for Dec. 10 and 11, the advisory said.
Officials are calling the girder installation a “milestone” for the project, which began in March.
Other work in the project includes adding a Park-and-Ride lot in the southeast quadrant of the interchange, building Bustang slip ramps, adding a pedestrian bridge over I-25 and installing a permanent water quality pond.
The hub is intended to improve regional connectivity and mobility and provide more reliable transportation options and improve travel times.
The project is scheduled to be complete in fall 2026.
