Driver who allegedly caused four-car crash, killed child arrested on several charges
The driver of a box truck who allegedly caused a four-car crash on Interstate 25 northbound Tuesday was arrested on several charges in connection with the incident.
Jose Salazar, 35, faces charges of child abuse, vehicular homicide while driving under the influence, vehicular assault while driving under the influence and tampering with physical evidence of a felony in connection with the Tuesday crash that killed a child on the interstate near Loveland Tuesday afternoon, according to a Wednesday news release from Colorado State Patrol.
Salazar, driving the box truck in the center lane, allegedly veered into the right lane and hit a Lexus GX that had four occupants: two adults and two children, according to the release. One of the children was pronounced dead on the scene; the other three people were taken to the hospital.
After it was hit by the box truck, the GX was pushed forward into a Kia Telluride and Chevy Silverado, according to the release. No injuries were reported by either of the occupants from the other vehicles.
The case remains under investigation by CSP.
The child was later identified as 17-month-old Elijah Manley, according to a GoFundMe started for the family Wednesday afternoon.
“No words can fully capture the heartbreak of losing a child in a tragic car accident, and this family is now walking through an unimaginable season of grief,” the family’s neighbor wrote.
