Evacuation order lifted in part of Boulder County for grass fire

Officials briefly evacuated part of Boulder County near West Dillon Road and Northwest Parkway for a wildfire Monday, according to a National Weather Service alert.

NWS Boulder issued an “all clear” for all areas under evacuation order around 4:30 p.m. Fire personnel will remain on-scene.

The fire was first alerted just before 3 p.m. and was moving east, according to Boulder County Sheriff spokesperson Vinnie Montez on social media platform X.

As of 4:20 p.m., the fire was contained, Montez said. However, people will likely still see smoke, he added.

A road closure on U.S. Highway 287 at Dillon Road going southbound is still in effect, Montez said.

According to the fire call, the fire started with a combine (farm equipment) and threatened nearby cattle.

Law enforcement and fire officials evacuated the area, including the Good Samaritan Hospital.

Roads in the area were also closed, according to officials. Traffic at West Dillon Road and U.S. Highway 287 was stopped.

“Even if you haven’t received the evacuation order yet, you need to heed the warning when you do receive it,” Montez said when evacuations were happening. “If at any time you feel unsafe, you need to get your items together and you need to go.”

The fire was southwest of the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette.

Another fire started just north of the Boulder Reservoir near 63rd and Plateau Road, Montez added. That fire is almost under control, he said.
