1 dead, highway closed after head-on crash near Silverthorne

One person died and U.S. Highway 9 is closed Tuesday morning after a head-on crash between two cars about 13 miles northwest of Silverthorne.

The crash, which took place just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, was between a Dodge Dakota and a Ford F350, according to a news release from Colorado State Patrol.

One occupant of one of the vehicles was thrown from their car during the crash; they were later pronounced dead on the scene, according to the release.

There is currently no time frame for reopening U.S. 9, which is closed at Ute for the investigation, according to the release. Those traveling through the area should anticipate an extended closure.
