Police arrest second suspect in connection with Wolff Run Park shooting

Police arrested a second suspect in connection with a fatal shooting at Westminster’s Wolff Run Park last weekend.

Charity Johnson, 35, faces first-degree murder charges after police connected her to the fatal shooting of a man in the parking lot of the park, located in the 4700 block of West 76th Avenue, that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to a Wednesday social media post from the Westminster Police Department.

Police arrested an initial suspect, 27-year-old Kenny Espinosa, on Tuesday after a police shooting and lengthy ensuing manhunt that closed Interstate 70 near Glenwood Springs for several hours. Officials originally believed Espinosa may have had hostages in his vehicle but later backtracked.

Authorities were first called the scene of what they are calling a homicide just after 7 a.m. Saturday, according to previous posts from the department. There, they found a man in his late 20s dead on the ground and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses in the area told investigators that they heard multiple gunshots around 2 a.m. that same morning, and had seen a dark-colored sedan leaving the park. Police were not called to the scene at that time.

Editor’s Note: Westminster police initially reporting the spelling of Espinosa’s last name as Espinoza and have since corrected the record.
