Weekend things to do around Colorado Springs and beyond: PBS Kids Day, Genealogy, Skate with Olympians, Rockies Fest

 SATURDAY

Such fun family times. Saturday is Be My Neighbor Day! in Southeast Colorado Springs with story time, a dance party and fun activities with Daniel Tiger of PBS. WeeCycle and Pikes Peak Library District will be part of the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. free activities at Family Event Center – Pikes Peak United Way, 1520 Verde Drive. Register at rmpbs.org.

SATURDAY

It hasn’t been the best of times, not even close, for the Colorado Rockies but no matter what, it’s baseball. Think new season, some new leadership and Rockies Fest, leading up to spring training. Players will be there for autograph sessions and popular Rockies great Larry Walker is a highlight. Also featured, Silver Slugger Hunter Goodman and top prospect Ethan Holliday and the coaches. There’s a golf simulator, garage sale, Family Feud, baseball card show and tour of Coors Field. Admission $5 benefits the Rockies Foundation. mlb.com

SATURDAY

2026, a year to immerse yourself in the history of the country and of Colorado. Saturday’s spotlight is an introduction to Regional History and Genealogy during an open house at Penrose Library, 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and an opportunity to learn how you can search your family’s local history. The invitation is “Celebrate the SES-QUI-SEMI-QUIN-CENTENNIAL” at the department in the 1905 Carnegie Building downtown. See digital collections and go on a scavenger hunt in the stacks. ppld.org/open-house

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

A popular fun weekend at Colorado ski and outdoor-event towns moves to Estes Park Friday through Sunday. Cheer the competitors in Estes Park Skijor as skiers, pulled by riders on horseback, race through a rugged obstacle course with jumps. Kids can try it out at a Kids Zone and novices can sign up to learn skijoring. visitestespark.com/events-calendar/estes-park-skijor.

SATURDAY

Almost time for the Milan Olympic Games and here’s a treat. Skate in the Paark with members of U.S. Figure Skating Association at the Saturday skate times 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. in Acacia Park downtown. $15 admission includes your skate rental. downtowncs.com

FRIDAY

While you enjoy a concert of country music and dancing, hungry families in the community will benefit as you help stock the shelves at Care and Share Food Bank. Featured at Stargazers Theatre and Event Center is the Jeffrey Alan Band. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items and make donations to provide meals for families in southern Colorado. Show at 7 p.m. Friday, doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets: stargazerstheatre.com
