Colorado to Italy: More than half dozen Centennial State athletes in action Thursday at the Winter Olympics
Tracking Coloradans competing in the Olympic Winter Games
– Charlie Mickel (Durango) and Landon Wendler (Steamboat Springs) both qualified for the first round of finals in the freestyle skiing men’s moguls early Thursday.
Both were then eliminated in the first round of finals, with Mickel scoring 78.03 to place 12th and Wendler in 17th at 70.2.
– Cody Winters (Steamboat Springs) was eliminated in the round of 32 qualifying in snowboard cross. Winters finished third in his qualifying group of four, where the top two moved on to the next round.
– Hailey Swirbul (El Jebel) placed 39th in women’s cross-country skiing 10 kilometer interval on Thursday. Swirbul’s time of 25:45.3 was 2:56.1 behind gold medalist Frida Karlsson of Sweden.
– Annika Belshaw (Steamboat Springs) performed in the women’s ski jumping large hill first round of training and is in 28th place after three jumps.
– Jason Colby (Steamboat Springs) completed the first round of training in the men’s ski jumping large hill. He sits in 31st place after three jumps.
– Brock Nelson of the Colorado Avalanche scored a pair of goals as the U.S. men’s hockey team topped Latvia 5-1 in its first action of the Games.
– Niklas Malacinski (Steamboat Springs) will begin his competition in the Nordic combined large hill with the first official training early Friday morning.
– Stacy Gaskill (Golden) will compete in her second Olympics in the preliminaries in snowboard cross on Friday. She placed seventh in the event in the 2022 Beijing Games.
