Lindsey Vonn gets encouragement from soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo as she recovers from injury
One of soccer’s all-time legends this week sent words of encouragement to Colorado skier Lindsey Vonn as she recovers from a gruesome injury sustained at the Winter Olympics in Cortina.
Cristiano Ronaldo shared the positive words in a comment on Vonn’s Instagram post after she announced she was finally out of the hospital after two weeks of being immobilized.
“Champions are defined by the moments they win, and the moments they refuse to give up,” Ronaldo wrote. “@lindseyvonn the mountains you conquered were never bigger than the strength you carry. Keep fighting. Legends always rise.”
The Colorado skiing legend responded, saying, “@cristiano coming from you this means so much.”
In the post, Vonn described her injury in great detail, saying she nearly had to have her leg amputated, if not for a six-hour surgery performed by Dr. Tom Hackett.
Vonn said she’ll now shift her focus to her rehab, which will take her from a wheelchair to crutches over the next few weeks.
“It will take around a year for all of the bones to heal and then I will decide if I want to take out all the metal or not, and then go back into surgery and finally fix my ACL,” Vonn said in the post.
