Stray dogs slaughter seven animals at beloved Colorado petting zoo

According to Wishing Star Farm, two stray dogs attacked their Ellicott-area petting zoo animals on February 23, resulting in numerous animal deaths.

The dogs, described as a small white pitbull with brown patches and a black-mouthed cur, attacked the animals between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., killing four sheep and three goats. Other animals were injured, as well. The attack was stopped when a staff member stumbled on the scene and scared the dogs away, per a report from The Gazette.

Cameras on the property reportedly caught the dogs being chased away, but didn’t capture great images that would make identification easy. Per a report from Wishing Star Farm, “both dogs seemed to not be afraid of human interaction; they were not immediately scared as a typical wild dog would be.”

Wishing Star Farm has asked the public for any information related to the potential owner or owners of the dogs. The petting zoo has expressed that there’s an ongoing concern an attack could occur again.

Wishing Star Farm can be described as an agritourism farm that offers year-round activities for families, one of which is a petting zoo. Per a report from The Gazette, the attack leaves the petting zoo with 20 animals, including six remaining sheep and goats, ponies, donkeys, llamas, and alpacas. Located in unincorporated El Paso County, the spot has 4.4 stars on Google Reviews. Learn more about visiting Wishing Star Farm here.
