Car plunges into Colorado River

A car plunged into the Colorado River after sliding off Interstate 70 on Saturday due to winter conditions.

According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), the crash happened on eastbound I-70 at mile marker 112, the South Canyon exit, near Glenwood Springs.

Everyone inside the vehicle made it out safely.

The GCSO wrote in a Facebook post that black ice is usually impossible to see and that roads that look dry could actually be slick. The sheriff’s office said to remember to slow down on cold mornings and evenings, give yourself extra stopping distance, and assume bridges and shaded areas may be icy.

“Fortunately, this story ended safely,” the GCSO wrote. “The next one might not. Drive smart. Drive cautious.”
