Missing snowmobiler found dead in avalanche debris
A person reported missing was found deceased in avalanche debris near Ptarmigan Pass on Sunday morning.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), a person was reported missing in the Boss Basin area, an upper portion of Resolution Creek south of Ptarmigan Pass, on the evening of March 7. Summit County Rescue Group, Vail Mountain Rescue, and Summit and Eagle County Sheriff’s offices responded and found an avalanche with ski and snowmobile tracks nearby and leading into it.
Authorities, with help from Flight For Life, found the missing person deceased in the avalanche debris on Sunday, March 8.
Staff with CAIC went to the site of the avalanche on March 8 and found that the avalanche occurred near tree line on a northeast-facing slope and was about two feet deep. The slope angles in the starting zone ranged from 33 to 36 degrees.
The CAIC said it would release a report on the tragic incident as soon as possible.
