Steamboat announces closing date after dry winter
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Steamboat Ski Resort is preparing to wrap up its ski season earlier than last year, citing a dry winter across Colorado.
The resort announced its final day of operations is April 12, about a week earlier than 2025, when lifts continued running until April 20. The earlier closing comes after a below average snow season statewide, which impacted conditions across many Colorado ski areas.
Despite the shorter season, Steamboat is planning a festive send off for closing weekend.
On Saturday, April 11, at 11:30 a.m., the resort will host its annual Cardboard Classic, where participants race down the slopes on homemade sleds. Registration for the event will open on April 1, conditions depending. Later in the day, a free concert kicks off at 3:30 p.m. featuring Duane Betts & The Palmetto Motel in Steamboat Square.
