Thornton daycare provider charged with child sexual assault
Thornton police have arrested a man the department said sexually assaulted a child at a daycare he ran with his spouse.
According to a social media post and news release, Thornton police arrested David Chambers, 81, and he has been formally charged by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, pattern of abuse.
Police said Chambers is the husband of a licensed home daycare provider and has assisted with daycare operations.
The abuse is believed to have occurred throughout 2025 while Chambers provided daycare services from his residence, located in the 4200 block of East 114th Avenue, according to investigators. Police said the daycare, Vickey’s Daycare, had previously operated for more than 40 years, including at two previous locations. It has since closed.
Police said there may be additional victims, and ask anyone with information to contact Thornton police’s tip line at (720) 977-5069.
Chambers turned himself into the Adams County Sheriff’s Office on March 6 after he was informed by Thornton police that there was a warrant for his arrest, according to an arrest affidavit. He was booked into the Adams County jail but has since bonded out, police said.
