Thornton police arrest man in connection with March homicide

Thornton police arrested a man suspected of committing a fatal stabbing.

The stabbing happened just before 11 p.m. on March 25 near the intersection of East 88th Avenue and Grant Street, authorities said.

Thornton Police Department officials said Zamien Rivas, 25, was arrested Thursday with the help of Arvada Police Department officers. Officials said he and the stabbing victim knew one another.

A 911 caller reported finding someone bleeding in the street. Responding officers found a 29-year-old suffering from a stab wound.

The man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. He has not been identified by police, and the Adams County Coroner’s office did not respond to an email Friday asking for the man’s identity by the time this story published.

Rivas faces a murder charge, police said. He was booked into the Adams County jail, where he remained Friday. His bond had not been set.
