Hiker rescued on Colorado Trail after fall

Search and rescue teams saved a hiker on the Colorado Trail near Chalk Creek at 12:15 p.m. on March 31, according to Chaffee County Search and Rescue North (CCSARN).

According to CCSARN, the hiker had fallen down an embankment about 50 feet. The fall resulted in numerous injuries, and the hiker’s status worsened while teams were responding.

Rescue teams with CCSARN and Chaffee County EMS got to the hiker at about 1 p.m., and ended up requesting assistance from REACH Air Medical Services.

The hiker was then carried out to an ambulance and taken to the helicopter landing zone.

CCSARN reminds outdoor recreationists that if they’re ever in need of assistance in the backcountry to call 911 or activate their emergency GPS device.
