Crews fight wildfire in Douglas County
Firefighters are working on a fire that broke out in Douglas County near Roxborough Park on Sunday morning.
According to the West Douglas County Fire Protection District, crews were paged out at around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning for a smoke investigation in the area of Indian Creek campground. They found a wildland fire about 10 acres large near Bear Creek around two miles northwest of the Indian Creek campground.
Crews determined that the fire is very slow moving and not posing a significant threat to the area at this time.
The U.S. Forest Service took over because the fire is on federal land.
The West Douglas County Fire Protection District said that since winds are calm and temperatures are cool, significant growth is not anticipated.
The fire department also said that a cause of the fire has not been determined. However, because of the proximity to a trail and area used by hikers and campers, the fire is being investigated as suspected human caused.
