Trailhead wildfire sparked overnight, serving as important reminder ahead of summer

At about 9:35 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, the National Weather Service announced that a new wildfire start was being monitored in the area of Boulder’s popular Chautauqua Park.

Boulder Fire-Rescue later provided an update on the blaze, clarifying that it was located in the area of Enchanted Mesa Trailhead, measuring at about half an acre in size. By the time that report was made around 11 p.m., the blaze was 50 percent contained with crews expected to be on-scene for a few more hours. Forward growth had been stopped at that time.

While this fire doesn’t seem to be much of a concern as of Monday morning, it provides a good reminder to practice best practices when it comes to fire safety ahead of summer. The cause of this fire wasn’t noted, though it was presumably started by some aspect of human presence as no thunderstorms were in the area at the time.

Additional information may be published on this fire as clean-up and the investigation into it continues.
