Up to 12 inches of snow forecast for Colorado’s highest peaks

Another modest round of snow is forecasted to hit some of the highest peaks in Colorado’s mountains.

According to mapping from the National Weather Service (NWS), the most snow is expected to fall in the central and southern Colorado mountains. The area around Vail Pass and the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel along the Interstate 70 corridor is expected to get up to eight to 12 inches of snow.

More to the southwest toward Aspen and the Elk Mountains is expected to get around six to eight inches of snow. The San Juan Mountains, especially near Wolf Creek Pass, are also expected to get up to 12 inches.

This light snowstorm comes while Colorado sits at only 20 percent of the norm in terms of snow-water equivalent.
