Adams County Sheriff’s deputies shoot, injure stabbing suspect

Two Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot a stabbing suspect early Tuesday morning, sending the suspect to the hospital.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m., when deputies responded to a reported stabbing in the area of 70th Avenue and Dexter Street in Commerce City, according to a news release. The area is between I-270 and Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.

When deputies arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene. Deputies used a K-9 to track him, according to the release.

While deputies searched the backyard of a house in the area, the 32-year-old suspect came out of the house holding a gun, the release said.

Two deputies shot at the man, who was taken to a local hospital. No deputies were injured. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office did not clarify the extent of the suspect’s injuries.

Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene, but it is unclear if the suspect fired it, the release said.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office officials are investigating the original stabbing incident and the Adams County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.

The deputies who shot their weapons are on administrative leave per standard protocol.
