Body of hunter missing for over a week found in Chaffee County
Searchers have found the body of a 27-year-old man on Saturday who had gone missing after going turkey hunting on April 15, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, volunteer searchers found Kaden Sites’s body in the wilderness near Tabeguache Creek about 1.5 miles away from where his truck was found. His body was recovered by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Chaffee County Search and Rescue, and the Chaffee County Coroner’s Office.
Sites had gone hunting alone on April 15 at around 1:30 p.m. When he didn’t show up for a doctor’s appointment that was scheduled for that afternoon, his family found his truck near Blanks Cabin Trailhead on Shavano Mountain.
An extensive search followed, with volunteers and search and rescue crews combing the area searching for Sites. According to a post from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, more than 6,000 man/woman hours were spent searching for Sites since he went missing.
“Our hearts go out to the Sites family and friends this evening,” said Sheriff Andy Rohrich in the Facebook post. “Chaffee County has lost a wonderful member of our community which has left a void in our hearts. There was always a measure of hope that Kaden would be found alive. We are thankful the family will have some level of closure. Thank you to everyone who joined in the efforts to bring Kaden home. It is such a loving community we have.”
The cause of death has not been released because it is still being investigated, but the sheriff’s office said they do not suspect foul play.
