Lake Pueblo State Park: A water getaway that’s got boat rentals, trails to explore, and more

The perfect spot for a day trip on a hot summer day, Lake Pueblo is known as one of Colorado’s “fishing hot spots,” with over 4,600 surface acres of water, 60 miles of shoreline, and nearly 10,000 acres of land. There’s plenty of room for sailing, motor-boating, waterskiing, and river tubing – and don’t forget the local trails, too. Visitors can also enjoy views of the Greenhorn and Wet mountain ranges to the southwest and Pikes Peak to the north.

History of the park:

Native American Indians were the first people to make the area around Lake Pueblo their home, with Spaniards and pioneers settling in later.

What recreation it’s known for:

Lake Pueblo State Park’s main attraction is its 4,600-surface-acre reservoir, providing great opportunities for sailing, motor-boating, waterskiing, river tubing, and fishing. There are two full-service marinas and boat ramps. Find boat rentals at this spot, too.

Popular camping/lodging options:

Lake Pueblo State Park has 400 campsites. Amenities include parking areas, ADA accessibility, flush toilets, showers, electrical hook-ups, fire rings, picnic tables, and dump stations.

Other things to know:

Boaters will need an aquatic nuisance species (ANS) stamp, current boat registration and a pre-launch boat inspection at the boat ramp to enjoy Lake Pueblo. Vessels and other floating devices that are hand-launched and human-powered are exempt from ANS inspections.

You also might need a Commercial Use Permit if you want to do an unusual activity or have an organized group event at Lake Pueblo.
