Go-karting crash kills two in Denver metro
Two people were killed in a Mile High City go-karting crash over the weekend, according to the Denver Police Department.
The crash didn’t take place at a go-karting facility, but in the area of Federal Avenue and Evans Boulevard, involving another motorist, as well. This is located on Denver’s southside, near College View and Ruby Hill, with the initial report that the crash was under investigation published at about 11:51 p.m. on May 2.
The initial report noted that one person was killed and another hospitalized, though the second person in the go-kart was later pronounced deceased.
It’s unclear what ultimately led to the crash taking place. Go-karts aren’t legal to drive on streets in Colorado, though some minor exceptions may apply in a select few instances. In general, this tragic case provides a good example of how dangerous it can be to take recreational vehicles onto a road with road-worthy motor vehicles, as these recreational vehicles don’t typically have the same safety standards that prevent death and serious injury in a crash with a larger vehicle.
At last report, the crash remained under investigation. There was no information published about anyone being charged with a crime related to the crash.
