Woman killed in Northglenn crash after car drives into home
A woman was killed in a crash in Northglenn last week after an alleged drunk driver fled a traffic stop and crashed into a house.
At about 11:50 p.m. Thursday, a Northglenn police officer attempted a traffic stop after witnessing a vehicle been driven erratically in the area of Washington Street and East 112th Avenue, according to a news release from the department. The driver initially stopped but then drove away.
Soon after, the car crashed into a home in the 10400 block of Clarkson Street. The driver, Angelo Arias, 18, was arrested at the scene. His female passenger, also 18, sustained serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital and later died, police said. She was not identified by police.
The crash ruptured a natural gas line, causing a CodeRed alert to be sent to nearby residents. Several homes were evacuated as a precaution and utility crews had to shut off the damaged gas line to render the area safe.
Arias allegedly showed signs of impairment after the crash. Police said he faces a vehicular homicide charge. He was booked into the Adams County jail after the crash, and faces additional charges including vehicular assault, vehicular eluding, illegal consumption of alcohol, failure to display proof of insurance and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Arias remained jailed Wednesday on $50,000 bond.
