Jeep driver allegedly hit cyclist before driving around victim to flee scene

Colorado State Patrol is on the hunt for potential witnesses after a hit-and-run crash was reported in Adams County.

According to a press release on the matter, the crash took place on June 3 at about 5:01 a.m. involving a cyclist and a dark blue or black Jeep Wrangler in the area of 72nd Avenue and Pecos Street.

Per the 61-year-old cyclist who was struck, he was riding his bicycle northbound through the intersection with the “walk” sign activated. Just after entering the crosswalk, the driver of the Jeep reportedly attempted a right turn from eastbound 72nd Avenue to southbound Pecos and that’s when the collision occurred. After the crash, the driver of the Jeep reportedly stopped, reversed, and drove around the pedestrian to flee the scene.

The cyclist sustained serious injuries in the crash.

At this time, Colorado State Patrol is looking for witnesses of the crash or those who may know the location of a 2014 to 2016 dark blue or black Jeep Wrangler with damage to one of the foglight housings on the front bumper.
