1 dead after 2-car, possible drunk driving crash in Aurora Saturday, police say

One person died after a two-car crash in Aurora early Saturday morning, police say.

The crash, which took place at the intersection of South Peoria Street and East Jewell Avenue, occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday morning, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Both drivers exhibited signs of alcohol consumption, and intoxication is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the crash, according to the release.

Investigators currently believe that a Hyundai SUV was making a southbound turn onto Peoria from westbound Jewell when it collided with a Nissan Xterra that was driving south through the intersection, according to the release.

A male passenger in the Hyundai was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries from the crash, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release. The adult drivers of the two cars were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger who died will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
