Climber sustains head injury after 50-foot fall in Colorado state park
A climber sustained a head injury after falling approximately 50-60 feet in Eldorado Canyon State Park on Saturday.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the Boulder County Communications Center got a report of the fallen climber at around 9:09 a.m.
According to the news release, the 30-year-old male climber was climbing the Rewritten Route and fell 50-60 feet after his safety gear dislodged from the rock. He was wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff’s office.
Eldorado Canyon State Park staff, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and Mountain View Fire Rescue units responded to the incident. The rescue teams provided initial medical treatment and secured the climber in a rescue litter for evacuation across “steep, unstable terrain.” The climber was then taken by an ambulance to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and care. The rescue operation took about two hours.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Eldorado Canyon State Park, Mountain View Fire Rescue, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group assisted with the rescue.
