Head to Colorado’s ‘wine country’ this summer to find more than 30 wineries
Although wine might not be the first thing that comes to mind when Colorado is mentioned, the Centennial State actually has some great vineyards in the state’s “wine country” with the Western Slope town of Palisade being a great hub for lovers of wine to explore. According to Visit Palisade, Colorado’s ‘wine country’ has more than 30 places to check out, with those in the Palisade area thriving since the 1970s thanks to the region’s dry days and cool nights.
Summer makes for a great time to check this part of the state out – but be warned, it will be hot. Here’s a look at eight of the best wineries in the Palisade area:

- Varaison Vineyards & Winery
This winery offers exclusive wine tastings and gatherings in a private cellar, elegant dining room or event pavilion.
2. Bookcliff Vineyards
Located in Palisade, this vineyard offers a variety of wines including “robust reds,” “playful whites, and sweet dessert wines.”
3. Restoration Vineyards
The owners of this vineyard bought it in 2012, this vineyard now cultivates “premium grapes that tell as story of resilience and craftsmanship.”
4. Colterris Winery
Located along the Colorado River, Colterris Winery is Colorado’s largest Estate Grown winery with over 75 acres of vineyards on the estate. As well as views of the Colorado River, the winery offers a courtyard where guests can enjoy their wine.
5. Carboy Winery
In the heart of Grand Valley, this “high-desert gem” offers panoramic views of Mount Garfield and the Book Cliffs. The website also says that the winery is the home of Colorado sparkling wine and one of the largest Charmat production facilities outside of California.
6. Peachfork Orchards & Vineyards
As well as craft estate wines, the “sunny days and cool nights of the rocky mountains” also provide the area with excellent growing conditions that results in extra sweet fruit. This vineyard provides both.
7. TerraVin Cellars
Founded in the heart of Palisade, this winery has breathtaking views and great wines. There is also live music on Friday and Saturday.
8. The Ordinary Fellow
This is a family-owned craft winery that focuses on classic French varietals producing small scale wines.
