Cole Carrigg has a need for speed.

One of the Rockies’ top prospects wasted no time making an impact in MLB.

Making his MLB debut Tuesday night against the Cubs at Coors Field, the 24-year-old Carrigg slapped a fifth-inning triple for his first big-league hit. That kind of juice is why the Rockies on Tuesday called up Carrigg, the organization’s No. 6-ranked prospect, according to Baseball Pipeline.

Carrigg recently was named player of the month for May in the Pacific Coast League. He slashed .338/.414/.529 with 15 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 42 RBIs across 57 games for Triple-A Albuquerque. Known for his speed on the base paths, the Modesto, Calif., native had 30 stolen bases in 37 attempts.

He recently played for Israel in the World Baseball Classic.

The Rockies also brought up right-handed pitcher Jeff Criswell from Albuquerque. Criswell is coming off Tommy John surgery. Tyler Freeman was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list after being hit by a pitch, while Keegan Thompson was designated for assignment.
