Altitude Sports shakes up Denver Nuggets broadcast
Nuggets games will look and sound different next season.
The Altitude Sports broadcast duo of Chris Marlowe on play-by-play and Scott Hastings offering commentary is being broken up. Marlowe announced in a social media post Wednesday his contract was not renewed.
“Altitude Sports is moving in a different direction and decided not to renew my contract,” Marlowe said. “It has been a wonderful 22-year run, and I want to thank everyone who was there along the way, especially the fans. I’m not retiring and this is not goodbye – it’s just so long for now.”
Hastings, a member of the broadcast team since retiring as a Nuggets player in 1993, is also out. He confirmed his departure from the broadcast on Altitude Sports Radio on Wednesday afternoon. He will remain on his afternoon radio show and transition to color commentary on Nuggets radio broadcasts.
Analyst Chris Dempsey announced Tuesday on Instagram he would not return to the broadcasts.
“It was one of the great joys of my life to be able to do something that quite frankly I didn’t think I was going to ever do when I got into journalism,” Dempsey said.
That leaves Katy Winge, Bill Hanzlik and Vic Lombardi as potential holdovers as the broadcast transitions to a new era.
Altitude Sports acknowledged the changes in a statement released Wednesday night.
“Over several eras, they have been synonymous with Nuggets basketball, bringing energy, insight and genuine love of the game to every broadcast. They have been part of many of the most memorable moments in franchise history, including the 2023 championship run, and have helped shape how generations of fans experience Nuggets basketball.”
