A mandatory evacuation is underway in a remote part of southern Eagle County due to what’s been dubbed the Spring Creek Fire.

Per an afternoon June 10 report, 95 firefighters are on the scene working to stop the blaze with the fire estimated to be about 15 acres in size with no containment. Crews are working to construct handlines and are being assisted by a helicopter, but a large number of hazardous dead trees in the area are posing safety concerns. In order to safely operate in the area, these trees must be mitigated.

At last report, fire activity was low, though it was expected to pick up as winds and temperatures increase as the day progresses.

The mandatory evacuation is for a section of the Eagle-Thomasville Road (Crooked Creek Pass) that’s north of Thomasville. Those in this area have been told to leave immediately as the area is not safe.

The first report of the wildfire was received at about 1:27 p.m. on June 9.
