Bear steals bag of trash from open garage in Colorado Springs
A bear entered an open garage in Colorado Springs last Sunday and took off with a bag of trash, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
According to CPW, the home owner was inside and didn’t confront the bear. The agency reminds the public to secure trash, pet food, and remove bird feeders. Most conflicts between bears and people start when bears access food, garbage, or other attractants like bird feeders. So it’s important to properly secure attractants.
CPW also noted that the front range leads with 283 of 1,200 bear repots in 2026 so far. According to CPW, bear reports are high this year because of Colorado’s warm and dry winter, which impacted bears’ natural foraging opportunities. CPW said that this year, “it is even more important that humans not provide unhealthy, unsafe food attractants for bears.”
