Racer involved in high-speed crash during Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

A competitor in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), Patrick Culligan, was involved in a high-speed vehicle accident during the race on Sunday, June 21, according to a post from the PPIHC.

According to the PPIHC, Culligan, who raced as number 720, was involved in the crash during the race and evacuated to UCHealth Memorial Central for further evaluation. He is reportedly awake, alert, and in stable condition.

Started in 1916, the PPIHC is 12.42 miles, includes 156 turns, and finishes at the top of Pikes Peak at 14,115 feet. It’s also America’s second oldest auto race, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Spencer Penrose.
