Swim beach at state park reopens after being closed for E. coli levels

The Martin Lake swim beach at Lathrop State Park reopened on Saturday afternoon after being closed for E. coli levels.

According to a post from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), the swim beach at Lathrop State Park on Martin Lake was closed Thursday after routine weekly water testing found E. coli levels that were above Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) standards. The swim beach on Martin Lake is the only area routinely tested for E. coli because it’s the only area where swimming is allowed on Lathrop State Park.

CPW posted on Saturday saying that the swim beach was reopened after new testing confirmed that waters met the CDPHE standards.

According to Lathrop State Park, the staff tests the swim beach water weekly, following CDPHE regulations and the results are usually “way below standard allowed levels of E. coli.” However, last week’s readings showed levels that were slightly higher than normal, so the swim beach was closed to “take extra abundance in ensuring public safety.”
