Skateboarder killed after being hit by multiple cars near CSU

A skateboarder was killed Wednesday night after being hit by multiple cars, the Fort Collins Police Department said.

Police said the collision happened about 8:22 p.m. near Constitution Avenue and West Elizabeth Street, less than a mile from Colorado State University and next to the University Village apartment complex.

Police said the skateboarder was in the road when he was hit by multiple cars going east on West Elizabeth Street. Investigators are working to determine how many cars hit the skateboarder and if any of the drivers fled the scene.

Responding officers found the skateboarder injured in the road. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is unclear whether the skateboarder, identified only as a man, is affiliated with CSU. The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release his identity and cause of death after his family has been notified.

“This is a tragic situation for everyone involved,” said Lt. Mike Trombley. “As the weather begins to get warmer, please remember there are an increased number of vehicles and pedestrians using the roadways and be cognizant of your surroundings.”

West Elizabeth Street was closed between Skyline Avenue and Bryan Avenue for nearly six hours while investigators processed the scene.

The Fort Collins Police Services CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team is taking over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.

Anyone with video surveillance along West Elizabeth Street that captures the flow of traffic or a dash camera and were traveling along West Elizabeth Street around the time of the collision is also asked to contact police.
