This popular trail starts right in the Summit County town of Frisco and leads high into the Eagles Nest Wilderness, offering a nice day hike or the launching point for a longer backcountry adventure. Look for the trailhead on Main Street just north of the Interstate 70 interchange (exit 201). The trail climbs between Chief Mountain to the north and Wichita Mountain to the south and after about two miles enters the wilderness. Look for old (and maybe new?) beaver dams along Tenmile Creek as it flows through open meadows. The hike gets steeper as it switchbacks to a junction with the Gore Range Trail, which can be followed to the north to Eccles Pass or the south to Uneva Pass. If you can leave a shuttle car or arrange a pickup, several options exist to make this a longer, even multi-day adventure. Otherwise, return the way you came.
