Things To Do

This trail runs steeply uphill for 2.5 miles through ski area Beaver Creek, offering a tough workout for those who might find themselves in this ski resort town in the off-season. It begins at the Centennial Express Lift, and the ascending switchbacks unrelenting. Take your mind off gasping for air by scouting for wildflowers in the open meadows. After more than 2,000 feet of climbing, you’ll reach Spruce Saddle Lodge where you can buy lunch or a beer or just catch your breath. If you packed your discs, you can play the 18-hole disc golf course. Otherwise return the way you came or, better yet, take the gondola down – it’s free to go down but not up!

Pro Tips

  • – This trail is not for the weak-kneed. It is brutally steep. For a milder adventure, pay to take the gondola up and hike it down. As of the summer of 2016, the fee was $34 for ages 12 and up.
  • – Be sure to spend some time enjoying the great views and a cold beer at the Spruce Saddle Lodge. You earned it!
  • – The steep trail is open only to hiking, though other trails in the resort are open to mountain biking. For an extra fee you can even ride the lift with your bike.
  • Recommended season(s): Summer – fall.
