Before the highways connected the mining town of Breckenridge with the rest of Colorado, the main access – especially in winter – was the railroad line over Boreas Pass from South Park. This trail leads to the tank where the trains took on water and offers splendid views of the Tenmile Range. Start at the trailhead that begins 3.5 miles up the Boreas Pass Road from Breckenridge. Follow 2.7 miles through aspen groves to reach the tank.
Pro Tips
Recommended season(s): Late spring to mid-fall for hiking, winter for skiing and snowshoeing.
