The Tomb That Towers Over Colorado Springs

The Tomb That Towers Over Colorado Springs

If you’ve been in the mountains around Colorado Springs, there’s a good chance you’ve spotted the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun standing tall on Cheyenne Mountain. Built 100 feet into the air on a steep slope, it’s hard to miss.

The Shrine is also the tomb that holds the remains of Spencer Penrose, one of the people responsible for developing Colorado Springs during its early days by building places like the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Broadmoor.

If you want to visit, your admission is included with your ticket to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo located on the mountain below. You’ll have to drive up another winding road to get there, but it’s worth the trip.
