Sorry, Mr. President. We’re busy.

That was basically the message the Denver Nuggets sent to President Joe Biden as the team has reportedly canceled its scheduled trip to the White House later this month.

Chris Haynes, senior NBA insider for TNT, on Thursday reported that the reigning NBA champions were scheduled to visit the White House on March 18, but have elected to skip the trip to Washington, D.C. in order to focus instead on their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves the next day.

The White House visit would’ve added an additional leg to an already busy road trip that includes stops in Miami on March 13, San Antonio on March 15, Dallas on March 17 and Minnesota on March 19.

Add in the fact that the Timberwolves are currently the No. 1 seed in the West, a game ahead of the third-place Nuggets, and the team’s calculus apparently changed.

“I was told the Nuggets made a tough decision, but they’re canceling that trip to the White House to prioritize that Minnesota Timberwolves game on the 19th because they’re trying to do everything they can to get that No. 1 seed,” Haynes said in the on-air report.

Haynes said it was solely a basketball decision and both sides wanted to make the visit happen.

The White House visit to celebrate the Nuggets’ 2022-23 NBA title was originally scheduled for January but had to be rescheduled due to scheduling issues on the White House’s end, according to the report.

An email to the Denver Nuggets seeking to confirm the TNT report was not immediately returned.
