More pools coming soon to famed hot springs resort in Colorado

New soaking spots are almost ready at one of Colorado’s most famous hot springs destinations.

Glenwood Hot Springs Resort recently announced its expectation for five pools to debut early this summer. The pools of varying shapes, sizes and temperatures will be situated east of what is known as the world’s largest hot spring-fed pool.

The pools are the latest in what the resort calls its biggest expansion project since it opened in 1888. The east end additions represent the third phase of that project. First was the Sopris Splash Zone, which opened in 2019, followed by 2022’s upgrades to the Therapy Pool. A fourth phase is to be announced later, a news release indicated.

The splash zone on the resort’s west side “is ideal for families, the historic Grand Pool and Therapy Pool in the center appeal to all ages, and the east end was created with adults in mind,” Glenwood Hot Springs CEO and COO Kevin Flohr said in the release.

Renderings show round and rectangular pools more intimately sized than the Grand Pool. One features a rock grotto situated among greenery — one of the two pools said to be fed by waterfalls. Around the pools are a shaded pergola and lounging area with a hearth.

The resort says all of its heated water is sourced from the geothermal Yampah Spring, composed of 15 natural minerals “that soothe the mind, body and spirit.” The news release credited the spring for producing 3.5 million gallons of water a day.
