JeffCo road rage shooting suspect charged with 10 counts

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office filed 10 charges against the man who allegedly shot a woman in the head after a road rage incident earlier this month.

Matthew Impellitteri, 56, appeared in court for the first time Thursday in front of First Judicial District Judge Mark Randall. He was represented by attorney Douglas Richards.

Impellitteri was charged with 10 counts in connection to the Nov. 11 shooting that left one woman in critical condition in Jefferson County. He faces four felony counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence and two violence enhancers.

Richards requested to lower Impellitteri’s million dollar cash-only bond, but Randall declined.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at Highway 285 and Settlers Drive, near Morrison, according to arrest records.

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area after reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found 38-year-old Kassi Moy with a gunshot wound to the head inside of a vehicle. Her boyfriend was in the driver’s seat, applying pressure to the wound.

The boyfriend told police that the shots had come from a yellow Subaru that went up Settlers Drive, according to arrest records.

Deputies found Impellitteri walking alone up the street. He said he does drive a Subaru but had just gotten home. He did not have a weapon on him.

Moy’s boyfriend told investigators that he had been driving fast on Highway 285 and had passed two cars, including the Subaru. The Subaru then caught up to the motorist in the adjoining lane and the driver fired two gunshots, according to arrest records.

The Subaru fled off toward Impellitteri’s home.

Impellitteri, a train controller for the Regional Transportation District, then entered his home with a shoulder bag. A search warrant later found five handgun magazines with live ammunition inside of the bag. A handgun was also found wrapped in a blanket on top of a bed.

Multiple other firearms were found in Impellitteri’s home.

Moy is still in critical condition, but the family has seen “small, hopeful signs,” according to the family’s GoFundMe, which has raised over $87,000 in six days.

“She’s shown us a bit more movement in her right arm although not as consistent as the left side, but progress just the same,” the family wrote in a Wednesday update.

“Kassi is a brilliant, kind, creative, active and selfless person who has so much life ahead of her. The impact of what happened to Kassi will affect her physically and emotionally for the rest of her life,” the family said.

Impellitteri is due in court for a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors will present evidence to the judge, on Dec. 10.
