Colorado DMV services to shut down for several days in mid-February for ‘significant’ upgrade

Motor vehicle services across Colorado will be unavailable for a few days in mid-February and limited for another two days after that.

All DMV services will pause starting the evening of Friday, Feb. 13 and remain unavailable through Monday, Feb. 16, according to a Jefferson County news release.

Online services are expected to be available again Tuesday, Feb. 17, but in-person services will not resume until later in the week as glitches are resolved.

Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Amanda Gonzalez urged residents to plan ahead. Late fees will not be waived as a result of the service interruption, DMV officials said.

After years of preparation, Colorado’s DMV office is upgrading its entire system to make it faster, easier and more secure, the release said. The new system will include a customer portal and dashboard for managing vehicles, licenses and personal information, and have a way to correspond with the DMV.

“We are incredibly excited for our residents to experience the more modern, secure, and user-friendly system coming in February,” Colorado DMV Senior Director Electra Bustle said. “This investment will translate directly into less time spent on transactions, both online and in our office, prioritizing your time and convenience.”

Jefferson County’s DMV offices serve more customers each day than any other county office, according to Gonzalez.
