Air Force freshman flirts with triple-double; UNLV blows open game in second half
UNLV missed just six shots after halftime, running away from Air Force 91-66 at Clune Arena on Saturday.
The Rebels shot 79.3% (23 of 29) in the second half, blowing the doors off what had been a 3-point game at the break.
Kimani Hamilton and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn combined to shoot 15 of 16 in the second half for UNLV (14-13, 9-7 Mountain West), where they tallied 37 of their 48 points in that span. Hamilton finished with 27 points, Gibbs-Lawhorn with 21.
Freshmen Lucas Hobin (19 points) and Kam Sanders (18) led the scorers for Air Force, which played for the first time since officially parting ways with suspended coach Joe Scott on Friday.
Sanders flirted with a triple-double, posting eight rebounds and nine assists to go with his career-high scoring output.
The Falcons (3-24, 0-16) trailed 34-31 at halftime but were outscored 57-35 over the final 20 minutes.
