Wildfire sparks in Golden Gate Canyon as dry conditions continue
A wildfire sparked in Golden Gate Canyon Thursday morning, officials said, the third new Denver area blaze in as many days.
The fire, which burned less than an acre after originating at a home in the 10000 block of Ralston Creek Road, spread to grasses and trees in the area before it was contained, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.
Officials with the office said the fire was no longer spreading an hour after first notifying the public about it.
The office issued pre-evacuation notices to everyone within a 3-mile radius of the fire, including those on Drew Hill Road and Spirit Horse Trail, advising residents to leave at a moment’s notice, according to Watch Duty.
It’s the third new fire in the Denver metro area this week amid warm, dry conditions and breezy winds. A 500-acre grass fire in Douglas County ignited on Tuesday; on Wednesday, a 10-acre vegetation fire that damaged at least one business threw a plume of black smoke into the skies along the Front Range.
The Front Range has been inundated with Red Flag Warnings throughout the week as the dry winter continues and winds pick up throughout the area.
