Denver NWSL club asks fans to help name team with ranked-choice voting
The club also gave fans a write-in option
Denver’s new NWSL team appears to be closing in on a name.
Colorado’s new professional women’s soccer team on Wednesday asked fans to help name the club with a ranked-choice vote, with six team name options.
“Help us choose the name that best represents our team and community,” the club said in a post on the online poll page. “Your voice matters in shaping a club that celebrates community, excellence, and the spirit of Denver.”
Denver NWSL possible team names:
- Denver FC
- Denver Peak FC
- Colorado Summit FC
- Denver Gold FC
- Denver Elevate FC
- Colorado 14ers FC
The club said the list was created based on feedback from fans at its launch event on Jan. 30 and from social media.
The club also provided a place for fans to suggest an entirely different name not included in the ranked-choice vote.
There was also a poll question for fans to decide whether the club’s name should represent Colorado or Denver.
“From Day One, we’ve said that this club belongs to Colorado, and we’re putting that into action by letting our fans help shape its identity,” Rob Cohen, controlling owner of Denver NWSL, said in a news release announcing the fan poll. “We’re building something special here—an elite women’s soccer club that represents the strength, spirit, and diversity of this community. This is the chance for fans to make their mark on history.”
The poll closes on Feb. 26, the team said.
Denver’s first professional women’s sports franchise has seen a surge of interest since its announcement. The club said it broke an NWSL record for the fastest franchise to reach 5,000 season ticket deposits.
Additionally, the team said it’s working to finalize plans for a “purpose-built stadium for professional women’s soccer and a dedicated, purpose-built performance facility for female athletes.”
The club said additional details on the stadium and the team’s final name, crest, colors and brand identity would be announced as they become finalized.
