Body of missing snowmobiler found after Summit County Avalanche
A snowmobiler died after an avalanche in Summit County on Saturday.
On March 7, a person was reported missing in the Boss Basin area near Resolution Creek, south of Ptarmigan Pass, according to a news release from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
Summit County Rescue Group, Vail Mountain Rescue, and the Summit and Eagle County Sheriff’s offices responded and found an avalanche with ski and snowmobile tracks going into the avalanche, the CAIC report said.
Officials, supported by Flight For Life, found the missing person deceased in avalanche debris early Sunday morning.
The avalanche occurred near a tree line on a northeast-facing slope and was about two feet deep. CAIC staff visited the site Sunday.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is leading the response and investigation, and CAIC will publish a full accident report and provide an additional update in the coming days.
