Longtime Woodland Park favorite restaurant The Swiss Chalet again has new owners.

According to Kellie Case, broker with Keller Williams Clients’ Choice Realty, Carrie and David Platzer purchased the former Swiss Chalet restaurant building and adjacent home in Woodland Park. Before opening as the Board and Barrels Bistro, the Platzers intend to remodel the interior.

Along with “barrels” of beer, the bistro will serve a full menu with a variety of selections, including charcuterie boards, Case said.

Swiss Chalet restaurant under contract

The Swiss Chalet, which opened in 1962 and under ownership for many years of the late Neil Levy, was a gathering place for the community, many who came to see and chat with the owner.

Levy, who bought the restaurant in 1999, died in August 2020 and the family subsequently sold the restaurant to Roberto and Elizabeth Calcagno.

With great fanfare last year, Roberto Calcagno reopened “the Swiss” only to close the restaurant and put the property up for sale a few months later.

The Platzers have experience managing five restaurants in Colorado Springs and Monument.

“Carol worked with Neil in the 1980s when he was a bartender/server in the Springs,” Case said. “Carol knew Neil almost as long as I did.”

Case expects the closing to be before the end of January.
