5 people crushed in Colorado as SUV rolls during ‘reverse-donut’ maneuver in parking lot
On Sunday night, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the scene of a horrific accident in which five people were left with life-threatening injuries sustained when an SUV rolled in a parking lot while the driver was doing a reverse-donut maneuver. Most of the injuries were sustained by people who were hanging out of the vehicle’s windows at the time the vehicle flipped.
As the driver sped backward in the vehicle through a sharp turn, the vehicle tipped on its side, landing on passengers. Following the wreck, numerous bystanders rushed to the scene in attempt to flip the vehicle back over, presumably off of people who may have been trapped.
The incident was being filmed at the time, with that video having since gone viral online and being viewed millions of times. Be warned – the video is extremely disturbing and graphic, as it shows people getting crushed by the SUV. It’s not embedded in this article for that reason, though it does remain posted online. Extreme viewer discretion is advised.
USA Today reports that the driver, identified as 19-year-old Marisol Wentling, did not sustain serious injuries and that she faces vehicular assault charges. Two people were treated and released from the hospital, with the remaining three hospitalized, but in a stable condition.
