Weather: Denver remained fairly dry and cloudy throughout Wednesday, but that’ll change this weekend

Denver mostly remains unscathed by Wednesday’s storm system that could bring severe weather across the northeastern part of the state, but that’ll change as Memorial Day nears.

Overnight temperatures will drop into the low-50’s across the metro along with partly cloudy skies. However, much of the northeastern portion of the state could  get potentially severe, said Caitlyn Mensch, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Boulder.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of eastern and northeastern Colorado through 1 a.m.

Sunny skies will return to Denver Thursday and the high temperature is currently  forecasted to be 75, Mensch said.

Sunshine and temperatures will increase into Friday as temperatures should be low-80’s, but isolated rain and possible thunder storms are possible near the Palmer Divide.

Last weekend’s storm system put Denver’s precipitation total over all of 2020’s and that will only increase Saturday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon hours and will continue through Monday, Mensch said.

Although storms are likely on Saturday, the greatest chance of rain and storms is on Sunday and Monday. However, the severity of these storms are not yet known.

“It’s too early to tell the potential threat these storm systems will bring,” Mensch said.
